Tuesday morning

Good morning all well the heat is starting to build here already and it will soon be time to slam everything shut and put down the blinds.


Dan is looking blissfully happy now he only has his underwear on and is ready for the heat.  The groomers have cut his coat nice and short so he can keep a bit cooler. 


This morning I was greeted by another lily open and sadly you cannot see that it is really quite pink however the sun is so strong it looks white.


On the fence, I have a clematis armandii which had gone insane and is flowering now when it should actually flower in the winter.

Today James has decided he would like to make lasagne which will require making the pasta so a pasta making lesson is in order.  Fortunately, the sauce is already made and the thermomix will make a bechamel so actually, there is not too much slogging over a hot stove to be done.

Did any of you see Nadia last night I will have to make her jumbo sausage roll that really appeals to me especially as I have a passion for scotch eggs.  I also liked the look of the soda bread with all the flavours of panettone and so quick and easy.  However, these can wait until it is a bit cooler I am not going to get trapped in the kitchen today. 

Well that's about it for today keep cool and relax.

    Sadly, I missed most of Nadia (I too love scotch eggs, Sainsbury's have rather nice ones in their Taste the Difference range, rather pricey and they come in singles but they are large) but I did see the soda bread and it rather appeals.

    I missed Nadia but recorded it to watch another time. I do enjoy her style of presentation. The soda bread sounds nice and I will watch with interest.

Friday morning

 Good morning all it’s a frosty cold but sunny day in fact a proper winters day. Tomorrow there will be rugby to watch.  I must admit I haven’t watched any of the Winter Olympics it’s not my thing.  I must admit I have never fancied skiing I can fall over on carpet. My tripe arrives today and I have made the mirepoix ready so just some simmering to do.   I think I might use the slow cooker the hopefully it will be ready for supper. Well my cup is empty and I hear the shower calling so time to get on.  I will be staying in the warm and playing in the kitchen.  Have a good day and stay warm.

Thursday morning

Good morning all well it is raining which is kind of par for the course.  This week has been one to forget as soon a possible.  Yesterday should have been a good day and despite feeling rubbish, I pushed on and got things organised for Shiona's visit.  So you can imagine how delighted I was when she didn't turn up.  She forgot.  So the boys and I had a nice lunch and I then took to my room and watched a lecture by Jordan Peterson which took my mind off my disappointment.  It is reassuring to hear someone of such intellect say that life is hard and nasty.  His latest book "12 rules for life an antidote to chaos" is a book that I have read once and I still pick up and reread the odd chapter when chaos is looming. So today I will be cooking the quails for lunch as the three of us will be here but as yet I haven't decided what to do with them.  I quite fancy Gnocchi Alla Romana but if I want them I will have to get a move on as the polenta has to...
