Wednesday morning

Good morning all what a hot and horrid night we finally got a breeze blowing around 4am which made it bearable.  I believe it is going to be even hotter today and I am going out for lunch to the Fordwich arms which is a really posh restaurant so I will have to wear clothes. YUK.  Somehow I don't think they would let me in in my underwear!!!!



Finally, my big lily has burst open and there are loads still to come so I am delighted they have done really well this year.  

James had his pasta lesson yesterday and discovered just how easy it is to make and we put together a lovely lasagne which did us fine for lunch with enough left over for his lunch today and for supper, we had just a cold sausage and mustard sandwich at about 10pm as no one felt like eating in the heat.

I made a batch of pesto which I gave to my neighbour Tak as we are getting sick of it.  My veg box comes with complimentary basil and a large quantity which I don't know what else to do with.  A few leaves will do on a salad or as a garnish but what do you do with a big bunch? Pesto freezes well so I will put the next lot in the freezer and leave it until the winter comes when it will make a nice reminder of summer.

Ok, now I need to get in the shower and then try to make myself look respectable which is no mean feat and may take some time.  Anyway, I will give you the rundown on the restaurant tomorrow if I survive the heat!!!

    I would do what you do and freeze the surplus in some way.
    That lily is gorgeous - it must be a stunning focal point in the garden.

Friday morning

 Good morning all it’s a frosty cold but sunny day in fact a proper winters day. Tomorrow there will be rugby to watch.  I must admit I haven’t watched any of the Winter Olympics it’s not my thing.  I must admit I have never fancied skiing I can fall over on carpet. My tripe arrives today and I have made the mirepoix ready so just some simmering to do.   I think I might use the slow cooker the hopefully it will be ready for supper. Well my cup is empty and I hear the shower calling so time to get on.  I will be staying in the warm and playing in the kitchen.  Have a good day and stay warm.

Thursday morning

Good morning all well it is raining which is kind of par for the course.  This week has been one to forget as soon a possible.  Yesterday should have been a good day and despite feeling rubbish, I pushed on and got things organised for Shiona's visit.  So you can imagine how delighted I was when she didn't turn up.  She forgot.  So the boys and I had a nice lunch and I then took to my room and watched a lecture by Jordan Peterson which took my mind off my disappointment.  It is reassuring to hear someone of such intellect say that life is hard and nasty.  His latest book "12 rules for life an antidote to chaos" is a book that I have read once and I still pick up and reread the odd chapter when chaos is looming. So today I will be cooking the quails for lunch as the three of us will be here but as yet I haven't decided what to do with them.  I quite fancy Gnocchi Alla Romana but if I want them I will have to get a move on as the polenta has to...
