Wednesday morning

 Good morning all. Yesterday was a washout weather-wise it rained for most of the day. We got the shopping done and decided on celery soup and then smoked mackerel and salad.  I then thought I would try an experiment.  The calves foot jelly is how the Victorians made their spectacular jellies so I wondered if you could make panna cotta so I heated some double cream and added a dessert spoon of the jelly. I added no sugar or flavouring just to see if the cream would overcome the slight beef taste.  Well, that was a great success you wouldn't have known it was not a packet of gelatin.  So flushed with success I am going to make one with smoked salmon as my starter for supper.

My main computer has been driving me crazy it is very slow so yesterday an engineer came and collected it and hopefully he will get it running a bit more smoothly.  I am using my iPad instead which I prefer.

Well the sun is shining and I am going wrap my warm dressing gown round me and sit and drink my coffee on the balcony.  Thanks Joy it is a balcony but it has always just been called the kitchen roof.

Friday morning

 Good morning all it’s a frosty cold but sunny day in fact a proper winters day. Tomorrow there will be rugby to watch.  I must admit I haven’t watched any of the Winter Olympics it’s not my thing.  I must admit I have never fancied skiing I can fall over on carpet. My tripe arrives today and I have made the mirepoix ready so just some simmering to do.   I think I might use the slow cooker the hopefully it will be ready for supper. Well my cup is empty and I hear the shower calling so time to get on.  I will be staying in the warm and playing in the kitchen.  Have a good day and stay warm.

Thursday morning

Good morning all well it is raining which is kind of par for the course.  This week has been one to forget as soon a possible.  Yesterday should have been a good day and despite feeling rubbish, I pushed on and got things organised for Shiona's visit.  So you can imagine how delighted I was when she didn't turn up.  She forgot.  So the boys and I had a nice lunch and I then took to my room and watched a lecture by Jordan Peterson which took my mind off my disappointment.  It is reassuring to hear someone of such intellect say that life is hard and nasty.  His latest book "12 rules for life an antidote to chaos" is a book that I have read once and I still pick up and reread the odd chapter when chaos is looming. So today I will be cooking the quails for lunch as the three of us will be here but as yet I haven't decided what to do with them.  I quite fancy Gnocchi Alla Romana but if I want them I will have to get a move on as the polenta has to...
