Saturday morning

Good morning all well it has been a really windy night and I believe there is some nasty weather on the way.  However, I will be glued to the TV and the rugby so it won't matter to me.  The UK has two teams still in the competition so who knows we might get one through.  

Yesterday I made the Jamie Oliver pie with loads of veg and a filo top which I am pleased to say got demolished for lunch and the leftovers were supper. I did the recipe with most of the ingredients however I did leave out the saffron as it would just have got lost in the amongst the harissa and preserved lemons and given the price of saffron I didn't want to waste it. I also have an Irish stew ready for lunch today and the oxtail needs a bit more cooking before it is really tender so that will just be set to simmer for a few hours while I am watching the TV.  

Short and sweet this morning as the rugby is about to start and I need to turn a few knobs on the cooker before I settle down to watch.

    All ready to go here too. We even set the alarm last night just to be sure we wouldn't miss anything! Good luck England, we also have some English family and I would really like to see the Blacks getting knocked off their pedestal. It should be a good match, in spite of the apparently horrendous weather conditions.

Friday morning

 Good morning all it’s a frosty cold but sunny day in fact a proper winters day. Tomorrow there will be rugby to watch.  I must admit I haven’t watched any of the Winter Olympics it’s not my thing.  I must admit I have never fancied skiing I can fall over on carpet. My tripe arrives today and I have made the mirepoix ready so just some simmering to do.   I think I might use the slow cooker the hopefully it will be ready for supper. Well my cup is empty and I hear the shower calling so time to get on.  I will be staying in the warm and playing in the kitchen.  Have a good day and stay warm.

Thursday morning

Good morning all well it is raining which is kind of par for the course.  This week has been one to forget as soon a possible.  Yesterday should have been a good day and despite feeling rubbish, I pushed on and got things organised for Shiona's visit.  So you can imagine how delighted I was when she didn't turn up.  She forgot.  So the boys and I had a nice lunch and I then took to my room and watched a lecture by Jordan Peterson which took my mind off my disappointment.  It is reassuring to hear someone of such intellect say that life is hard and nasty.  His latest book "12 rules for life an antidote to chaos" is a book that I have read once and I still pick up and reread the odd chapter when chaos is looming. So today I will be cooking the quails for lunch as the three of us will be here but as yet I haven't decided what to do with them.  I quite fancy Gnocchi Alla Romana but if I want them I will have to get a move on as the polenta has to...
